Some amazing reviews of my latest book as illustrator ‘The Last Song of the Mistle Thrush’ by Ruth Mary Falangan.

I first met Ruth in a writing group we both attended in Wimborne. During the group meetings, we often read our writing aloud and I always looked forwards to hearing Ruth’s beautiful poems. When she asked me to illustrate this particular poem, and we sat down to discuss the illustrations, it was quickly apparent that it was going to work really well as a picture book.

The lyrical story follows the mistle thrush through the changing seasons, and different landscapes. One fateful day, the trees in the glade are chopped down, and the little bird must sing a different song, one to remind mankind of the fragility of our planet, and the need to take care of it.

I think that this book could not have been published at a more perfect time, when climate change is at the forefront of a lot of people’s minds, this tale is a beautiful reminder to all who read it of the need to look after nature and wildlife.

The book has recently been on a book review tour , and has received some wonderful feedback.

From an illustration point of view, I am so pleased with how the book looks and how well the colours have reproduced. I tried to incorporate a mixture or double page spreads, single page illustrations, and vignettes. Seeing it all put together as a book, it works really well.

If you’d like to buy a copy, you can do so here. I hope you enjoy it.
