Drawing Red Animals
I recently joined a wonderful online animal life drawing session with Holly Surplice.
This time, the theme was the colour red. In fact the beautiful photo of a fox on the promo post was what really got me, as I love drawing foxes, and they definitely fit into the ‘red’ category.
One of the things I enjoy the most about these sessions is the super friendly atmosphere. You wouldn’t think you could get an atmosphere via zoom, but you can, and this one is lovely. A bit like sitting in an art class with lots of friendly people to talk to about drawing and books and art!
The photos that Holly Surplice and Hannah Camarra choose are always stunning, and a joy to work from. Each photo is on a timer, from 2 minutes up to 20 minutes. You can also go back and watch the replay (included in the process of the 2 hour session) so you can work for longer from the images if you wish. I think I am going to do this when I have time soon, as there were so many lovely photos I like to spend longer working from.
I used a combination of materials to draw with, including pencil, carbon pencil, watercolours and coloured pencils.
